It's been more than a year since I last blogged, so I figured I'd give an update. Most peeps keep up with me via Facebook or Twitter, but really I only talk about recipes I've tried or funny things I've seen or heard. Oh, and to keep up with my children.
Year two of our new life in JC has been great, but challenging. It finally feels like home to the kids and me, and I no longer get lost. I've even unplugged the GPS, and navigate using the position of the sun and/or stars. Okay, so I'm not that skilled with navigation, but you get the idea. The kids are ensconced in band and church and school. I love that they take after me with their musical interests. Hey, it's all I got (aside from secretarial skills), so I had to teach them what I know, you know? I guess as parents, that's all we really can do. That and hope for the best. And pray a lot, which I do. I really do have the best kids of anyone I know. Yes, I realize I could be biased, but objectively-speaking, they're great. I see all types of kids every day, and believe me, God has blessed me beyond compare. I don't know why He chose to do so, but I'm gonna run with it, and praise and thank Him daily for it.
I still play piano at church. A lot. I love it. It's the one thing I can do for God that is uniquely me because every note I play comes from my heart. I still write praise lyrics sometimes, and occasionally, I'm awakened in the middle of the night with some tune in my head I've never heard before. I sit at the piano, plunk the tune out with some chords, and it's like giving birth without pain. It's cathartic, fulfilling, and sometimes a bit maddening. I don't play these songs for people because I don't know that I could handle the criticism. They're for the Lord anyway, and I figure when He wants them known by other people, He'll push me in that direction. I do, however, show my family the lyrics I've written, and I usually get a good review. They're kind to Momma Sue.
Ah, Momma Sue. This is the moniker that one of Kailey's friends gave me upon learning my middle name, and it sort of stuck. Now, a good portion of the band calls me Momma Sue whenever they see me. When one of the counselors I work with at the 9th grade building heard a student call me this, he started calling me Momma Sue. I must admit, I like having a title like that. Who wouldn't?
I've been dabbling in photography. It was all accidental. I started taking really nice pictures of the kids for Christmas cards as I didn't want to pay someone else to do it, figuring I could edit them myself, etc., and save a little money. Little did I know that it'd become something I'd really like to do for a living. I'll keep my day job, however, until there isn't enough time in the day to do that and the photography. Plus, I need a business license and stuff like that, and I seem to have a hard time getting to City Hall to take care of that. This makes me think, "Why do I put off doing a little thing or two that could put me well on my way to doing something I love?" Hmm. Anyone else their own saboteur?
I writing this as I'm contemplating going to the YMCA. I love how I feel after exercising. I just hate putting on workout clothes, driving to the gym, and working out. I also tend to cook a lot of pasta dishes and delectable desserts (thank you, Pinterest), so I think whatever progress I make at the gym is canceled out by my ability and desire to cook like a TV chef. Sab-to-the-o-to-the-tage, again? Pinterest is a wonder, and I like it a lot. I've decided to start pinning health and fitness stuff as well, in hopes to get motivated. At least my hubby, Ron, is motivated and likes to accompany me. I believe he also gets a bit excited when I pin recipes and try them out, which spur him to burn off the calories. My husband is the most wonderful thing to come into my life since my third child was born. I just wanted to say that.
My Nikes are calling me, so I guess I'll slip them on, and go sweat a little. Good thing for modern technology: I can check out Pinterest while I'm on the exercise bike. Win-win!
